Thomas D Phillips
Thomas Phillips has been a professor of American History at the University of New Haven (now retired). In addition to several publications in Civil War journals and magazines, he was selected by National Public Radio in 2009 to do an interview on Abraham Lincoln in honour of the 200th anniversary of the President’s birth. This was followed up in 2010 by a national broadcast from New York comparing the State Department work of William Henry Seward with that of Hillary Rodham Clinton. He has also shared mutual assistance with Pulitzer Prize winner David Herbert Donald, whose Lincoln biography has become a standard.
During 36 years in the military, Tom Phillips led an isolated unit through a terrorist episode, ran a think tank for the Commander-in-Chief Strategic Air Command, served as the Director of the Air Force Personnel Readiness Center during Operation Desert Storm, and led some of the first American troops into Sarajevo. Following his military service, Phillips worked as a university administrator before beginning a full-time writing career. Tom is a graduate of Air Command and Staff College and Air War College.
